Last school year, we started singing a new song at youth group. It was really well received and seemed to resonate with the students. The song is “The Lord Will Provide,” and it’s based on part of Jesus’ teaching in the Sermon on the Mount. The youth led it in "big church" in May on youth Sunday, and we had so many people asking about the song that we decided to add it to our Sunday morning repertoire. We started singing it in June, and I haven’t had the opportunity to write a staff journal about it until now.
When we sing “The Lord Will Provide,” we declare to one another that God provides for our needs. We encourage each other not to worry about things, but to trust in the one who faithfully supplies. The song uses Jesus’ words about the flowers and the birds of the air, who do not worry or stress about their needs, because God cares for them. And how much more God cares for us!
The song continues by using Jesus’ words when he said, “Seek first the kingdom and His righteousness and all these things will be given to you as well.” When we sing this song to one another, we encourage one another not to seek the treasures and riches of the world, but to seek the things of eternal value. When we seek to glorify God in all that we do, when we concern ourselves with the things God is concerned with, He takes care of our needs.
As we sing this song on Sunday, I don’t know what your needs might be. I don’t know what you might be anxious about. But I know that God is faithful to provide. He owns everything. It’s all his. Everything we need, God already has it. So, my prayer is that singing this song will remind us of how great a provider the Lord is. I pray that anxiety would fade, that worry would cease, and we would rest in knowing, “every single time the Lord will provide”!
See you Sunday!
