Bio of Brent Preston

Brent was born and raised in the south coast jungles of the island of Papua, Indonesia. His parents were missionaries with TEAM to a tribe of 50,000 people called Asmat. The Asmat had never heard of God or Jesus and had no word for “God” in their language.

Brent grew up hunting and fishing in the jungle and helping his dad. He came to Christ at an early age and enjoyed life in the jungle but had no desire to become a missionary.

At 18 years, Brent returned to the USA for college and received a BS at Columbia International University in Columbia, SC. While there, the Lord opened his heart to consider missions. He then went on to get a Master of Divinity from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School.

After working as youth pastor at Sterling Evangelical Bible Church (SEBC) for three years, he moved to Madiun, Java, Indonesia, to teach and work with Javanese believers to plant churches in East Java. Losing his visa to Indonesia, God sent him to lead a team to Russia in 1992. In 1996 he returned to the USA and met his wife, Nicole Williams. They got married at SEBC in 1998, and Brent pastored that church for four years while Nicole obtained theological education from Columbia. In 2002, Nicole and Brent returned to Russia.

In 2007, TEAM asked Brent to take a role of oversight over a region of the world. Brent currently has overseas leaders in North Africa, the Middle East, and Central Asia. He and Nicole have four children: Steel (23 yrs), Stone (22 yrs), Katie (19), and Strider (17). They live outside Chicago in Winfield, IL. Brent flies in and out of the countries he oversees, and Nicole is teaching fifth grade at a public school.
